There's a...
Girl!
Hehe.
No big surprises here.
Our little babycakes was shy and despite looking for a good 20 minutes, never gave us a completely clear shot. HOWEVER, the tech (who was fabulous) was 85% sure it was a girl. The perinatologist super guessed girl at 12 weeks... they guessed that early with Chloe also and it was right...
So everyone, there's your answer!
We really don't need much to prepare! A few big ticket items and we're set. Ya know, the basics... A crib, high chair, Boxes and BOXES of diapers. hehe. Did I mention diapers? I feel like I'm always buying them!!! Gotta love a new box of pampers. Am I really doing a product review on diapers?! Yikes.
I originally didn't want a double stroller, but there are a couple that I'm interested in now. I don't think I'll use it 100% of the time, but I can think of quite a few examples of times when I'm really going to have no other choice and will really wish I had one.
It's weird, I always just assumed I'd have a boy. I really thought that when we actually learned that our last baby was a girl I'd be heartbroken. I'm surprised at my reaction... I feel the opposite. I couldn't be happier. We're giving Chloe an insta-best friend (and enemy!)
I'm so glad to be getting more use out of Chloe's clothes. I'm dying to go back through the boxes and hang up all her teeny tiny outfits.
I can't believe in a few months they'll be on our newest bundle of joy!!
Sorry Grandparents, I guess I'll leave it to my sisters to give you a grandson!!

Have We Got A Story To Tell!!
Long story short, the tech was beyond awful.
Ok. Now the long story.
She couldn't tell us if she saw girl parts or boy parts. She said it was WAY too early to tell. Are you kidding me? We were 18+ weeks along. We were told at 12 weeks that it was probably a girl. Same thing with Chloe. By this time in my pregnancy with Chloe, there was no doubt it was a girl.
THEN, it took her 45 minutes to measure the babys head, femur and to calculate the heartbeat. Things regular techs can do in 5.
She then let us go.
Odd. Nothing about any anatomy. Nothing to make sure the baby even had the right organs in the right places. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
I don't know if we are having a boy or girl.
Sorry Folks.
Although she's going to "guess" girl.
(I'm sure it's a girl).
Worst of all, we don't even know if everything is alright. If things are working right.
I'm sure things are, but to not have any kind of looksie or anything was REALLY Lame.
Capital L Lame.
I almost cried on the way home. But I didn't.
I don't want to remember this about my big birthday.
Instead, I'm going to remember seeing her cute little body and arms and feet.
Knowing I saw her little heart beating away.
Sorry there aren't any pictures to show. She gave us two of the back of her head but they're not worth the effort of scanning into the computer. I'm sure you can imagine what a fuzzy grey image of a circle would look like.
But dont' worry, what we did get to see of her was cute.
I caught a glimpse of her cute little spine.
Chloe is going to love tormenting her.
Yes. I'm calling her a her.
Until something tells us otherwise.
Although I'm sure that franks and beans would already have been there.
But wait. I'm getting to the best part! When I get home, I check my phone to realize I have a voicemail from the Ultrasound tech. She forgot to do the other 1/2 of our scan. Are you KIDDING me?!
I had Chris take off this morning so he could help with Chloe and now I have to go back to be re-scanned another day?
I was royally pissed to say the least. I called back and let them know I would come back but they will be having a different tech doing the ultrasound. I also made sure to mention the fact that I'd be bringing in my screaming baby without help. Take that.
Ahhh. That feels better. Just let it alllll out....
I'll let you know Wednesday afternoon how it went. Although don't expect a gender, it's still going to be WAAAY too early to tell I'm sure.
Which reminds me. Chloe is feeling better, her fever has gone down but she's still on some Motrin/Tylenol because she will get warm if she doesn't have any. She's broken out in a rash which the doctor said to expect and it signals that she's getting better. It must have been some kind of Virus. She is REALLY cranky still, however. I mean REALLY cranky. Our generally good, sweet, entertains herself baby has turned on us. But she's still cute. Especially when she's crying so hard for no good reason.
Speak of the devil. Turns out naptime is over before it began.
See you later!!

Pictures.
Get your fill. More pictures of our princess than you would have ever thought possible.
Someone told me the other day that our baby should be a model.
I agree. I know that I’d buy anything her face was on.
Being A Parent...
Now, I realize that those things are all fine and dandy. What's really hard is something Chris and I will live with for the rest of our lives. We wont get over it just because she's 1 year or 5 years old.
Chloe doesn't feel right. She's just been all around cranky. Two days ago, she had a temperature of 102 degrees that I thought may be due to teething. I gave her some Tylenol and she seemed to feel a little better...
But the hardest part of being a parent came last night at midnight when she woke up and started crying. I thought for a couple minutes about letting her cry herself back to sleep but something just told me to go in there. Good thing I did. Her temperature was 103.1! I stripped her down, gave her a cool bath, some Tylenol and a bottle. Then, the unexpected. Poop to her neck. I gagged, she cried, we hosed her off and gave her another bath.
I felt so helpless, so scared. It's amazing, when she's got a head cold or something, I don't worry - I know what's going on, I can see all the symptoms, I can easily monitor her. But with a fever, there are so many unanswered questions. What could it be?! I felt such an overwhelming need to do everything right. Mistakes here are not okay. This is our daughter we're talking about!! Does it warrant a trip to the ER or do we just keep an eye on her until morning when I can get her into the doctor?
I watched her closely, she was acting normal, happy and exhausted. I rechecked her temp, 100.5. Thank goodness. I put her in a onesie and rocked her. She cuddled up tightly, put her arms around my neck, sighed and went to sleep. I did not.
I got us into the doctor this morning at 8. He's a little concerned there aren't more symptoms, just a fever and one blowout doesn't really give us an explanation. Then, something I didn't expect to hear. He'd like her urine to test. I was happy to give over her diaper... except that wasn't what he wanted. Needless to say, within 10 minutes our daughter had a catheter up in her lady bits. They got their sample and Chloe acted like nothing had ever happened. I however am scarred for life. Result= her urine is normal.
Because her fevers are so high, the doctor wants us to go back in tomorrow morning so he can see how she's doing so we're not left stranded over the weekend with an even sicker baby. He thinks it's just some kind of virus that will run it's course, resulting in continued fevers and he expects more diarrhea. How exciting. The fact that she's not having more diarrhea seemed to concern him a little. He also did warn me that tomorrow, they may do some blood drawing. Good thing Chris has tomorrow off. Two days of poking isn't my idea of a good time. I'm pretty sure Chloe isn't too excited either.
Sooo keep babycakes in your thoughts. I'm sure she'll be fine, I just hate fevers this high. Then again, she's really never had a fever. So I hate this even more.
Oh, and we're 18 weeks along today! Only I look like I'm about 25 weeks along! Just a few more days until I turn a quarter of a century and we find out for sure the sex of our newest addition to the family.
Good times at the Johnson household!

Picnic In The Park
Today Chloe and I had a great lunch date at the park.
She had her first taste of subway (some bread, tomato and turkey at least)
(Just like her mama, she cracks herself up~!)
Big surprise, but of course she couldn’t get enough.
She also discovered a love for ducks and dogs …
(particularily dogs in the water)
This was her expression the whole time we were watching the doggie!
And just in case you didn’t believe me about her being busy, check out these next pictures I snapped…

8 Months
Yes. I’ll admit it. Chloe turned 8 months on Sunday.
Mothers Day.
I forgot.
It’s not the first and it won’t be the last.
Anyway…
Over the last month Chloe has had a lot of firsts.
It’s when she first started crawling. Now she’s practically running (on all four’s of course)
It was her first Easter, her first Mothers Day in person, her first plane flight, her first time seeing her Boston family…
Her first time pulling herself up…
Put all those things together and we have a seriously on the move baby!
She also cut her first two teeth!
Luckily, she’s back to sleeping through the night, (although she has cut her sleep short and likes to wake up between 5:30 an d 6:00!)
Now if we could just get rid of that nasty runny nose she picked up in Boston!!!
(Who, ME?!)
She talks all the time now, and by talk I mean babble…
The last week or so has been really interesting. Everyday Chloe really has changed. She’s no longer an infant, she’s hardly even a baby anymore. I’m accepting this fact just fine, but it’s hard when she is no longer content in your arms and would rather be investigating the dishwasher or stairs…
Luckily our nighttime routine proves to me she’s still a softie at heart.
*sigh*
She really loves to take a nice ride in her stroller.
Oh yeah, and give her a water bottle to play with and she’s in heaven.![]()
Love you baby girl!

Teeth

Ok. Hopefully here’s a better picture of her teeth.
You MAY have to click on the picture to make it larger.
But seriously, these teeth are coming in so fast!
Seriously. We are so in love with this kid.
All she wants to do is go-go-go...
AND say "MAMA" :)
Yup. Mama. I'm so proud.
It feels SO good.
That, and the fact that she's back to sleeping from 6:30 pm to 6:00 am.
Thank the heavens.

15 weeks...
I went to the doctor yesterday, or should I say Midwife?
Yup. That's right.
Surprise!
I'm having a natural waterbirth at home.
Just kidding!!!
However, I am seeing a group of 3 midwives this time around. So far it's been wonderful.
Appointments are more heartfelt, the entire office staff has a huge crush on Chloe and everyone goes out of their way to make sure all my questions are answered and I'm at ease.
I know I was in great hands with an OB should there have been an emergency when I was delivering Chloe, but the personal attention just wasn't there.
The practice of midwives works under a great OB as well, just in case there are any complications.
ANYWAY,
that being said,
we have scheduled our "Big" ultrasound...
for my birthday!
On June 1st we'll get to confirm our suspicions that Chloe is going to have a sister to be super drama with! ;)

Reflecting...
Today I relived the last few weeks of my pregnancy and first few weeks of Chloe's life by reading the blog. I'm so glad I kept a good chronicle of everything. Will baby # 2 be disappointed that they don't have their OWN blog dedicated to them? Will I remember to chronicle all the important aspects of their life?? (As a side note, we WILL be switching the blog to a FAMILY blog shortly... I'm not ready to let go of Chloe's blog quite yet)...
I have to admit that I've spent a lot of time contemplating the actual process of getting baby #2 out as well. I'm sure this won't be the last time I talk about it. I'm not afraid of it, but it's my last chance to challenge myself to handle it well. Reading my birth story from Chloe and thinking about the day just reminds me how amazing it was and how scary it was at the same time. I really need to find ways to cope with the pain...I can't even put into words how ridiculously painful. I don't want to be begging for an epidural this time. I know I can do it naturally, I just want to be prepared this time. I know what to expect, I can do it. I am hoping I can do it without 1. making Chris white as a ghost and 2. screaming like a crazy woman.
I may be looking into some serious hypnotherapy or something. Haha. Anyone want to be my coach? I think Chris wants to resign!
One of the other big things on my mind is breastfeeding. I have a hard time really telling people how I feel, and this is one of those things. Having to give Chloe formula has been a huge source of disappointment for me. I'm hoping someday I can look back and not feel so much resentment towards myself for something I'm not sure I really even had control over. Why was I one of the less than 5% statistically that can't produce milk?! I think baby # 2 is going to be a test to myself to see if I just didn't try hard enough with Chloe or something. I hate thinking that my body failed me. I'm not sure why exactly I couldnt' produce but I am going to give 200% this next time. For only so long. I promise I won't make myself crazy over it. I guess in the end, I'm really hoping I can give baby # 2 something I couldn't give Chloe...(sorry baby girl!) If not, there's always Costco. The best thing is, they'll deliver all 52 cans of formula you'll need right to your doorstep with just the click of a mouse! *sigh*

Busy Weekend!
We have had a fun filled weekend being tourists in Central California.
Despite the fact that we live here.
Yesterday we took Chloe to Avila Beach, where she loved the baby swing…
Today we spent a good chunk of our time driving through the windy roads near Solvang/Los Olivos.
We even did a 30 mile windy mountain trip to search for fun hiking trails. In the end, we weren’t very victorious but we still managed to have a lot of fun.
We then decided to head over to Solvang to check out the sights.
It’s always an experience…One I need only once every few years.
Does Anyone spy 2 little teeth??
Chloe will NEVER forgive me for this picture!
And yes, that was the best picture I could get of them…

Life Goes On...
Chloe must just be getting us ready for having another newborn in the house. She's starting to regress and act like one again, she's up all night!!
Her two bottom teeth are the most adorable thing on earth - I can't get a good picture of them yet, however...
Chloe showed me how fabulous she was at playing Peek-A-Boo yesterday. Turns out she's a pro! Who knew?!
Skip if you are easily grossed out:
Today, Chloe was helping me get dinner ready by playing with her cooking utensils on the floor when I happened to turn around and for a moment I panicked. I thought she had gotten into the flour can. The floor was COVERED in white... Turns out Chloe had just spit up and then thought it was fun to sit in it, crawl through it and finger paint with it. I love being a mom! She was so pleased with herself!
Wasn't that a great story!?... Talk to ya later!

The Big One...
But Guess What?!

Yup...
That's ours.
Nope...
It's not Chloe!
Due Date: October 29th, 2009
It's been hard keeping this quiet, but we wanted to make sure everything was a-ok.
We got back from our NT scan this morning and the doctor gave us a great report.
I've been extremely nervous because I've felt so... Normal... but so far, this baby is a piece of cake just like Chloe was. Well, except for the whole making me YA KNOW on the plane. Twice.
Note to self: Never fly when pregnant.
That shouldn't be a problem because this is most likely our last pregnancy... I have to admit, It's sad to think about that. I do love being pregnant...
Who knows... Perhaps 10 years down the road we'll change our mind and try for that elusive boy. Haha. I'm not sure Chris could handle 3 daughters and a wife if we're wrong, however.
By the way, NO, we do not know the gender... although... I'm going to pretend I am a sonographer and say I know what I saw... and I saw... NADA. Actually, that ultrasound pic looks IDENTICAL to Chloe's :)
I'd love it if we got another chance to wear some of Chloe's ridiculously cute outfits. It is so sad to put them away after she only wore them a few times!!
Advice?
She goes to bed right away at 6:30 and sleeps straight until 1:30 or so. Yes. 1:30. Then she's up for good... but you know she's exhausted. The only sleep she gets after that point is when we give in and put her in bed with us (Not a good habit for her to develop after being so independent for so long)... She also flat out refuses naps unless she's in bed with me napping.
However, I'm not sure it's due to the time change at this point.
Big News:
Yesterday I found her 2 bottom teeth on the center are trying to break through. HOORAY! We won't have a toothless mongrel forever! Advice needed: How long does this take and is this the culprit of her poor sleep habits lately?
Also noteworthy, she has learned to pull herself up on EVERYTHING, and every 2 minutes after her 1:30 am wakeup call, she's standing at the end of her crib crying for us. Advice needed: How long does this take for them to get over and is this the culprit of her poor sleep habits lately?
Someone please save us.
I don't sleep when she's sleeping on me and I can't let the kid cry for hours on end.
Crying it out doesn't work for her. It sends her into a full blown panic that takes forever to calm down from.

Proud
This is from her 7 month photo shoot.
You can tell that she's proud of herself for pulling herself up onto things.
You go girl!
Chloe Misses Her Daddy
That means Chloe and I are 200 miles + from her daddy for an extended amount of time.
We miss him a ton.
Don't worry - I do have cute Easter Pictures from our Photoshoot with ADORABLE cousin Ashley, I just can't post them because they're in the wrong format that only my computer with fancy schmancy photoshop at home can understand. Make sense? So yeah. You'll have to wait until April 24th+ to see them. So sorry.
We also went to see the Angels VS. Red Sox on Saturday with my parents.

We had ridiculous seats and it was SO much fun, there were 5 home runs!! Wowzers. Chloe was a doll the entire game (of course!) and she was a big hit with all the people around us. Thanks for taking us, Papa & Mimi! Chloe really did enjoy the game. Chris and I enjoyed it 10x more...especially since we had babysitters.
This post is taking me a long time to write. Why, you might ask??
I keep having to chase after Chloe who has made it her job to find things she shouldn't be playing with!!
I love that she's able to be more independent.

7 Months...

Two posts in one day... I know... Unheard of.
Chloe grows more and more each day.

She's becoming QUITE vocal although you'd never know it because she's usually a mute unless she's around Chris and I.
Silly Girl. She prefers to bat her eye lashes and flirt with everyone else.
EVERYONE loves Chloe. Could be because she's always so good...
Could also be because nobody can resist a big, huge flower headband.

If I could make her sleep in it, I would. Well, actually she has slept in it (in her car seat). She quite enjoys it. She knows she's beautiful.
(Thanks Mimi & Papa!!!!)
Chloe is a FABULOUS baby/Infant/Almost grown woman. Yikes.

:)
Ok. I know that's a long way off. But still.
She's LOVES her bath time, she splashes like it's going out of style...

she just looks up at us with her water soaked face and smiles her big, huge gummy grin.
She has taken a liking to repeating babababababababa incessantly and randomly throwing in a dada or a mama. I won't hold my breath.
But, I guess, in the biggest news of all, she's become a pro at crawling. When she wants to.
The biggest surprise? No teeth yet!
Chloe also hates HATES HATES when you wipe her face after dinner. She doesn't like that you have ended her meal service and she certainly would rather you don't wipe her face. When I say she hates it, I mean she's in complete hysterics and the only thing that will calm her down is more food or a pacifier. She's serious about eating.
